Not A Mama Yet Podcast: Episode 1

For Episode 1 of the Not A Mama Yet Podcast, I’m introducing you to Dr. Sanda Moldovan!

This is going to sound so LA, but she is my dentist who is also a nutritionist.  Dr. Sanda (as she likes to be called) is an award-winning Periodontist and Nutritionist with her own practice in Los Angeles, CA.  She is an internationally recognized speaker, author, and television personality consulting on oral health, periodontics, nutrition, and anti-aging. Dr. Sanda is the ‘go-to’ oral health expert for the Emmy-award winning television series “THE DOCTORS” and is a widely sought after oral health expert by NBC and CBS. She just launched her wellness brand, Orasana, and released her book: “Heal Up!: Seven Ways To Faster Healing And Optimum Health”.  Originally from Transylvania in Romania, Dr. Sanda has worked extremely hard to build up her robust practice where she is helping transform her patients’ health and their lives.

I’m obviously biased when I say I love her, but she has totally changed the way I feel and think about my oral health.  She taught me the importance of how our mouths are gateways to the rest of our health and immune system, which is why taking care of our teeth and gums is a crucial part of our daily routine we should not skimp on.

She is currently working towards becoming pregnant, so I was excited to talk to her about what exactly she is doing to accomplish that and how her background with nutrition and new book about healing are helping her through that process.

This episode features a conversation between me and Dr. Sanda Moldovan. This is going to sound so LA, but she is my dentist who is also a nutritionist. Dr. Sanda (as she likes to be called) is an award-winning Periodontist and Nutritionist with her own practice in Los Angeles, CA.

My main takeaways from this episode are:

  • Remembering to reflect on what aspects of my upbringing have shaped the person I am today in my characteristics and my interests. I’ve always been the oldest child, cousin, etc. so i was always the caretaker looking after the kids while the parents socialized and i think that made me more maternal as I grew up.

  • Getting tested for the MTHFR Gene to know whether or not I am metabolizing certain nutrients properly!

  • I don’t have anymore mercury fillings but if you do, make the appointment to get those out!

  • I’m updating my morning smoothie with kale instead of spinach!

  • I also did some more research on moringa and I found out that I wasn’t totally wrong about the dangers of moringa but I wanted to make sure I clarified that.

    • Moringa leaves can help with reproductive health when you are trying to get pregnant. During pregnancy, moringa can help women meet their daily iron and calcium needs. Additionally, moringa leaves contain zinc, vitamin A, potassium, calcium and even protein! These are all important vitamins and minerals to have while pregnant or planning to conceive. This green leaf actually contains three times the amount of vitamin A that’s in carrots, over 7 times the amount of vitamin C in oranges, double the potassium found in bananas and 4 times the calcium in cow’s milk. After you give birth,  moringa has proved to help with breast milk production. (Source)

    • It’s likely unsafe to use the root, bark or flowers of moringa if you are pregnant because chemicals in the root, bark, and flowers can make the uterus contract, and this might cause a miscarriage. (Source)

    • Of course, talk to your doctor about taking anything you are unsure about and do your own research as well!
